What that changes here
In a Brussels terraced house damp comes from three sides: from above through the box gutter, from the side through the party wall, and from below through rising damp in the cellar. We only treat what comes from the roof, and we say so when the cause is elsewhere — paying for a facade treatment because of a leaking box gutter is the classic mistake.
Evere was built mainly after the war: housing estates from the 1950s and 1960s, social housing and apartment blocks with large flat roofs. The building stock is younger than elsewhere in Brussels, but the first generation of bitumen felt laid on those flat roofs is now reaching the end of its life.

By its height and its regularity: a horizontal band eighty centimetres to over a metre high, even along the whole length of the wall, often with salt efflorescence and plaster coming away. If the stain appears after rain and sits higher up, it is penetrating damp.
It works well on solid masonry with an accessible joint. On a cavity wall, in natural stone or filled with rubble, it is trickier, and another approach is more honest. We say so beforehand, rather than injecting and hoping.
