Services

Damp treatment

Diagnosis and treatment of rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation.

What this covers

Damp in a wall always has one of three causes, and the three call for different answers. Rising damp comes up from the ground and forms a band eighty centimetres to a metre high. Penetrating damp comes from outside, often through a tired joint or an overflowing gutter, and shows up after rain. Condensation comes from inside and settles on the coldest surfaces. Treating without having established which of the three is at work means treating the wrong one.

  • Moisture readings at several heights and at several times
  • Rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation told apart
  • Injection of a damp-proof barrier against rising damp
  • The external cause put right: joint, gutter, flashing or threshold
  • Ventilation advice where there is condensation
  • Photo report and, if necessary, a check after one winter

Seen up close

A roof is judged on its details: the junctions, the overlaps, the penetrations. This is the point of workmanship that, on this service, makes the difference between a roof that lasts ten years and one that lasts thirty.

Damp treatment

A question that is not on the list? Ask it over the phone, the answer is free too.

By its height and its regularity: a horizontal band eighty centimetres to over a metre high, even along the whole length of the wall, often with salt efflorescence and plaster coming away. If the stain appears after rain and sits higher up, it is penetrating damp.
