The building stock of Zaventem: green periphery, detached houses and trees

Roofer in Zaventem

Zaventem lives with the airport: over the decades many houses have had extra insulation and acoustic work carried out in the roof. That work was not always done carefully, and we regularly find a crushed air gap or a missing vapour barrier.

The surroundings

Green periphery, detached houses and trees

In the green periphery a roof never dries out completely. The north slope keeps a permanent damp that feeds moss and algae, while the leaves fill the valleys and send the water under the tiles. Then there are falling branches, which break tiles without anyone noticing before the first heavy downpour. Regular maintenance pays far better here than elsewhere.
