What that changes here
On the periphery a lot of owners insulate the roof themselves, and that is where we find the most damage: insulation pushed up against the roofing underlay, no air gap at all, a vapour barrier full of gaps. We put the ventilation right first, the insulation after.

For a pitched roof, aim for 18 to 24 cm of mineral wool or PIR depending on the material, to meet the requirements in force. In an existing roof structure the space between rafters is limited: you then add a second layer under the rafters, crossing the joints.
In most cases, yes: the insulation is fitted from the inside. Sarking — insulation laid over the roof structure, under the tiles — is only justified if the roof has to be redone anyway. In that case it is the best solution, and the question comes up before the tiles are ordered.
