Weathered corrugated fibre cement sheets with moss in the corrugations, on an outbuilding

The corrugated sheets on the outbuilding

Laid before 2001 almost always means asbestos. That changes the whole job.

The situation

Around Tienen, Landen and Asse hundreds of sheds, cowsheds, garages and carports are covered in corrugated fibre cement sheets. As long as the sheet is intact and nobody touches it, the risk stays limited. The problem starts with weathering: a sheet that has taken thirty years of rain and frost releases fibres, and every cut or breakage makes it worse.

What we find

  • A rough, washed-out surface where the cement has gone and the fibre is showing through
  • Moss in the corrugations and at the overlaps
  • Rusted hooks and sealing strips, with the sheet starting to slip
  • Broken sheets already covered “temporarily” with a piece of plastic

What we do

  • Take down sheet by sheet, without sawing, without breaking, without brushing
  • Package immediately in closed big bags or double sheeting, on site
  • Take to a licensed facility, with the transport document as proof
  • Re-cover in profiled steel sheet or asbestos-free fibre cement straight after the strip-out

What makes the difference

Always ask for the disposal document. It is the only paper that proves after the event that the asbestos was dealt with properly, and it is asked for when the building is sold. We hand it over without your having to ask.
